Robin Hood 101

What it Means to Be Robin Hood

In 2014, your donations made it possible for Robin Hood to invest $133 million in the best schools, job training programs, shelters, food programs and other essential services that help New Yorkers in need.

ROBIN HOOD HAS NO ENDOWMENT

We must raise every poverty-fighting dollar we distribute. This means that both the number of people we can help and the depth of that help fully depend on our generous donors.

ROBIN HOOD USES RIGOROUS METRICS TO MEASURE THE IMPACT OF OUR GRANTS

Robin Hood’s system of metrics ensures that our donors’ dollars are allocated to the most effective programs throughout the city. Much like a financial manager chooses investments to maximize outcomes, Robin Hood makes grants to maximize impact on the well-being of low-income New Yorkers.

THE UPSHOT

ROBIN HOOD ADDS VALUE VIA MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE AND CAPITAL ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMS

In addition to financial support, Robin Hood provides a wealth of support services to grantees to ensure they can stay true to their mission and become more effective.

These services include:

  • Helping organizations find effective board members
  • Providing financial, accounting, and marketing support
  • Giving real estate expertise and leadership training for key executives

ROBIN HOOD GETS RESULTS

We find ways to bring their successes to scale. If they falter, we bring in experts and necessary expertise to help them correct problems. If problems persist, however, we discontinue funding. This may seem harsh, but in reality, every misspent dollar is a missed opportunity to help New Yorkers in need.
